Text Box: Dataran Lang (Eagle Square) is the first sight that greets you when you arrive at Langkawi island by the sea. Dataran Lang has a huge sculpture of an eagle poised proudly facing the sea, welcoming you to this mystical island. Situated near the Kuah jetty, the main attraction of the Dataran Lang is the magnificent statue of the reddish brown eagle majestically poised for flight. According to local folklore, Langkawi derived its name from the eagle or "helang". In old Malay, "kawi" denotes reddish brown, hence, Langkawi means reddish brown eagle! Dataran Lang is beautifully landscaped and features scenic ponds, bridges, covered terraces, restaurants and barrel vaults made of bricks. Text Box: Taking a cable car to top of the legendary mountain, Gunung Mat Cincang is a must-do. It is probably one of the most exhilarating experiences you'd ever have. This cable car will bring you all the way up to 709 meters. The journey covers a total of 2.2 km at an incline of 42 degrees. The steep ascend and descent make your ride an exciting one!
